Detailed Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about OZI in one place.

What exactly is OZI Sleep?

OZI Sleep is a contactless, under-sheet sleep tracker built for families. A thin sensor mat placed beneath your bedsheet detects heart rate, breathing, movement, and sleep stages — no wearables, no cameras, no subscription. It was built by the team behind zPods, the kids’ sleep brand, and turns each night into simple, useful insight every morning.

How is OZI different from a smartwatch or ring?

There’s nothing to wear, charge, or remember. A watch or ring has to be worn every night and recharged regularly — and kids often forget or refuse. OZI sits under your sheet and works passively, while delivering clinical-grade accuracy that matches leading premium wearables.

Do I need to wear anything to use OZI?

No. OZI is completely non-wearable — no wristband, ring, chest strap, camera, or microphone. Just place it under your sheet and sleep normally.

Does OZI use a camera or microphone?

No. OZI has no camera and no microphone. It detects sleep using only a contact-free sensor under your sheet, so there’s no audio or video recording of any kind.

Does OZI require a monthly subscription?

No — never. You pay once and own it for life. All app features and future updates are included at no extra cost.

Who is OZI designed for?

OZI is designed for families — parents tracking their children’s sleep, adults who don’t want to wear a device, and caregivers monitoring elderly loved ones. It works well for kids and adults alike.

Is OZI only for kids?

No. While OZI is especially popular with parents, it works just as well for adults. Adults use it to track sleep stages, heart rate, breathing, and daily readiness — all without wearing anything.

Is OZI a medical device?

No. OZI is a consumer wellness product designed to help you understand sleep patterns. It is not an FDA-cleared medical device and cannot diagnose, treat, or prevent any medical condition.

What comes in the box?

The OZI sensor mat and a USB power adapter, plus access to the OZI SmartSleep app for iOS and Android. App access, all features, and lifetime updates are included.

What makes OZI different from a regular sleep app?

Phone-based sleep apps rely on your phone’s motion sensors or your own guesses, and tend to be far less accurate. OZI uses a dedicated clinical-grade sensor in your bed — in independent testing it matched premium wearables and dramatically outperformed app-based tracking.

What is included with lifetime app access?

Everything in the app, for life: sleep score, full sleep-stage breakdown, heart rate and breathing tracking, bed-exit and other smart alerts, the household dashboard, weekly trends, and the adaptive soundscape system — plus all future updates, with no recurring fee.

What happens during the 30-day trial?

Use OZI at home for up to 30 days. The first couple of weeks act as a calibration period, then you see OZI’s full value. If it’s not the right fit, return it within the 30-day window for a full refund — we cover return shipping too.

Is shipping free?

Yes. Shipping is free within the continental United States. Orders are processed by the next business day and arrive in most cities within 3 days. Return shipping is also on us during the trial.

Where do I place the OZI sensor?

Lay it flat between your mattress and sheet (or under a thin topper), centered under your upper back at about heart level. That position gives the most accurate readings.

Does OZI go under the sheet or under the mattress?

Under the sheet — resting on top of the mattress (or beneath a topper under 4 inches). It should not go underneath the mattress.

How long does setup take?

About 2 minutes. Slide the mat into position, plug it in via USB, and pair it with the OZI app over Bluetooth.

Do I need Wi-Fi to use OZI?

Wi-Fi isn’t required to get started — OZI pairs with your phone over Bluetooth. Both 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz Wi-Fi are compatible if you’d like to connect it.

Does OZI work with iPhone and Android?

Yes. OZI works with iPhone (iOS 16 or higher) and Android (9.0 or higher). The app is built for phones — it isn’t optimized for tablets, and installation can’t be done on a computer.

What mattress types does OZI work with?

Most standard mattresses, including memory foam, hybrid, innerspring, and latex.

Does OZI work with thick mattresses or mattress toppers?

OZI works with toppers and mattresses up to about 4 inches thick. Beyond that, accuracy may be reduced because the signal has farther to travel.

Does OZI need to be charged?

No. OZI stays plugged in through its included USB adapter, so there’s no battery to charge and it’s always ready for the night.

Can I move OZI between beds?

Yes. Simply unplug it, reposition it in the new bed, plug it back in, and you’re set.

Can I use more than one OZI device in my home?

Yes. You can set up multiple OZI devices across different beds and manage them all from one household dashboard in the app.

What sleep data does OZI show?

Each morning you’ll see a sleep score, sleep stages (Light, Deep, REM), total sleep time, heart rate trends, breathing rate, movement and restlessness, key overnight events like wake-ups and bed exits, and weekly trends — presented as a simple dashboard, not raw data.

Does OZI track sleep stages?

Yes. OZI tracks Light, Deep, and REM sleep and gives you a clear stage-by-stage breakdown of the night.

Does OZI track heart rate and breathing?

Yes. OZI continuously measures heart rate trends and breathing rate through the night using its under-sheet sensor.

Does OZI show when someone leaves bed?

Yes. OZI captures bed-exit events and shows them in your morning report. You can also turn on real-time bed-exit alerts.

Can I see sleep trends over time?

Yes. The app’s trends view shows your sleep score history and lets you compare sleep quality across the household over time — so you can build routines that actually work.

What is the OZI sleep score?

It’s a single, easy-to-read number that summarizes how restorative the night was, based on your sleep stages, duration, heart rate, and movement.

Can I view sleep data from my phone?

Yes. All of your data lives in the OZI app on iOS (16+) or Android (9.0+), so you can check in anytime from your phone.

Can I receive bed-exit alerts?

Yes. Bed-exit alerts are optional and built to notify you only when something meaningful happens — no notification overload.

Can I customize alert settings?

Yes. You can configure which alerts you receive, such as bed-exit and prolonged wake-up notifications, in the app’s smart alerts panel.

Can I share sleep reports with family or care providers?

Yes. Household Mode lets you share sleep insights with family members, with per-member controls over whether they see real-time access or summary reports only.

Can parents use OZI for kids?

Yes — it’s one of the main reasons families choose OZI. It’s designed for children who are too old for a baby monitor but too young (or unwilling) to wear a ring or watch.

What age is OZI appropriate for?

OZI is designed for adults and children ages 5 and up. It is not intended for infants, toddlers, or children under 5, for both safety and accuracy reasons.

Can OZI help parents understand bed-exit moments?

Yes. OZI alerts you when your child gets out of bed and logs those moments, so you can respond quickly and understand patterns over time — like sleepwalking or wandering.

Can caregivers use OZI for older loved ones?

Yes. OZI is a great fit for elderly care: there’s nothing to wear, and a caregiver can check sleep remotely from their phone through the household dashboard.

Can I check sleep patterns remotely?

Yes. With OZI Remote Care, authorized family members or caregivers can securely view a loved one’s sleep data from their own phone.

Can OZI support multiple family members?

Yes. OZI supports multiple profiles and devices across a household, all visible from a single dashboard.

Does each sleeper need their own OZI device?

Yes. One device tracks one sleeper, so each person you want to monitor needs their own OZI.

Can OZI track two people in the same bed?

Not with a single device — it would blend both people’s signals. For a shared bed, we recommend one OZI per person for accurate, individual tracking.

Is OZI useful for adults who dislike wearables?

Very much so. Many adults choose OZI precisely because nothing is worn — no ring, watch, or wristband, and nothing to charge.

Is OZI good for privacy-conscious households?

Yes. With no camera and no microphone, encrypted data, and user-controlled sharing, OZI is built for households that care about privacy.

Can I buy OZI for a parent or loved one?

Yes. You can purchase OZI at ozisleep.com. It ships free within the continental U.S. and is straightforward to set up for someone else.

How many OZI devices do I need for my household?

One device per person you want to track. For example, two children and one adult would need three devices.

What should I do if I share a bed with someone?

For accurate individual data, set up one OZI for each person, placing each sensor on that person’s side of the bed, centered under their upper back.

Does OZI record video?

No. OZI has no camera and records no video whatsoever.

Does OZI record audio?

No. OZI has no microphone and records no audio whatsoever.

Who can see the sleep data?

By default, just you (the account holder). In Household Mode you can grant access to specific family members, and you control whether they see real-time data or summary reports only.

Can I control who has access to the app?

Yes. Household Mode is privacy-first: you decide who can view your data and at what level of detail, and you can change those settings at any time.

Is OZI safer for privacy than a bedroom camera?

Yes. Unlike a camera, OZI captures no images or sound. It only senses physical signals through the mattress, so there’s no footage or audio that could be seen or heard by anyone.

Does OZI listen to conversations?

No. OZI has no microphone, so it cannot hear or record conversations.

Does OZI store personal health information?

Your sleep data is stored securely and anonymously, and you control access to it. Account and order details (like your name and payment information) are handled through our store platform, separate from your sleep data.

Can sleep data be deleted?

Yes. You can request deletion of your personal information at any time. Just email service@ozisleep.com and we’ll help.

Can I use OZI without sharing data with others?

Yes. Sharing is entirely optional — you can use OZI as a completely private, single-user device.

How does OZI protect bedroom privacy?

OZI uses only a contact-free sensor — no cameras, no microphones, no surveillance. Your data is encrypted and under your control, and we never sell your personal information.

How accurate is OZI?

OZI delivers clinical-grade accuracy. In independent sleep-study testing it matched a leading premium smart ring across key metrics — around 98% on sleep-stage detection — while dramatically outperforming fitness bands and phone apps.

What can affect OZI's accuracy?

Accuracy is best when the sensor is centered under your upper back and your mattress or topper is within about 4 inches thick. Sharing one device between two people in the same bed will blend signals and reduce accuracy.

Can OZI replace a sleep study?

No. OZI is a consumer wellness product, not a clinical diagnostic tool. It can’t replace a medical sleep study (polysomnography).

Can OZI diagnose sleep apnea or insomnia?

No. OZI doesn’t diagnose any medical or sleep condition. If you’re concerned about sleep apnea, insomnia, or another condition, please consult a healthcare professional.

Can OZI detect falls?

OZI doesn’t directly detect falls. What it does do very accurately is detect when someone leaves the bed. You can set alert thresholds so a caregiver is notified based on bed-exit timing and how long someone has been out of bed — a helpful way to stay informed and respond quickly, even though it isn’t a dedicated fall-detection system.

Can OZI prevent wandering?

OZI can’t prevent wandering, but it can alert you when someone leaves the bed so you can respond quickly. It’s a monitoring aid, not a substitute for appropriate supervision or care.

Can OZI guarantee someone's safety?

No. OZI is a sleep-monitoring tool that helps you stay informed; it isn’t a safety or emergency-response system and shouldn’t be relied on as one.

Does OZI work for couples in the same bed?

Yes — with one device per person. A single sensor would mix both sleepers’ signals, so couples who both want accurate data should use two OZI devices.

What should I do if the data looks unusual?

First, check that the sensor is centered under your upper back, that your mattress or topper is within the 4-inch limit, and that the USB connection is secure. If readings still look off, reach out to service@ozisleep.com and we’ll help.

When is OZI not the right fit?

OZI may not suit infants and very young children, mattresses or toppers thicker than about 4 inches, anyone who needs medical-grade diagnostics, or situations that call for a dedicated safety or emergency-response system.
